I filled the first page of my ZenArt Sketchbook recently, making some sketches for a bigger project. The drawing is based on a picture of my own cats, when they were just kittens (they are brothers and love eachother).
I absolutely love the quality of the paper, I worked with gouache and the paper only wrinkled a tiny bit - the elastic band helped to straighten it afterwards.
I also used some of the FineLine Miniature brushes, they worked perfectly ❤️
I do oil portraits and I usually work with Sennelier oil paints. My sister bought me these as a Christmas gift. I must say it was the best gift ever cause if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have known.Comparing to what I've used before.. these are much easier to work with, they sit different on the canvas, the pigment is more vibrant, the texture is creamier. I use Liquin original as a medium and they go well toghether.
I love the brushes and the pouch brush holder that came with it! I am a newbie painter so this helps me practice better. Thanks!
Only just started using for the first time .The paint flows nicely !It's been a positive experience so far !Great price for Artist quality paint .
This sketchbook has nice smooth pages and it's nice for just plain ink sketching, but it doesn't hold a watercolor wash very well at all. Maybe if the wash was super light, very little water. Like a few strokes as an accent here and there would work, but I tried some regular wet on dry washes and the pages buckled quite a lot. Now I just use it for sketching and practicing different techniques - the "page feel" is really nice, with my pigma pens. The pen slides along the page with an easy, silky feel, the ink is drawn in well, low bleed, no feathering. I had hoped it would stand up to a wash a little better but it's a nice sketchbook for practice and just playing around in.
I have been a professional artist for more than 30 years and recently purchased ZenART Supplies’ sketchbook. This was not the first thing I've purchased from this online company and, as usual, I am more than impressed with the quality for the price. This sketchbook has a wonderfully textured PU Lether cover that is heavy enough to protect the pages within. The playful spots that dot the cover and the three exposed sides make the whole process of carrying and using the sketchbook even more fun. Now, we come to the most important part of a sketchbook, the paper. This paper is heavy, 120 gsm, and a light cream that did not affect my work at all. I made a sketch with graphite and loved the way the pencil slid across the smooth paper. It erased really well and I was able to draw and erase (with a rubber eraser) over and over with no damage to the paper. Then I tried a variety of Micron pens, a Prismacolor marker, Sharpies, gel pens and colored ink pens. While I had some bleed through with the Prismacolor marker, it was a brush style marker - I used the big end - and the color was Brick Red. I expected the saturation of ink would leave something behind. It doesn’t matter - everything else I tried worked fine. Including watercolor pencils.I sketched a simple idea of a vase and orchids and covered the paper with watercolor pencils. Then I used a wet, thirsty brush and created watercolor washes from them. The paper did not bleed through. The pages curled a little on the corners but I was able to gently turn them back down. This sketchbook comes with two ribbons to mark your place and a back envelope perfect to hold reference photos. In addition to the sketchbook, I've purchased ZenART Supplies’ bullet journal - that I absolutely love - their Oil/Acrylic brushes and their Infinity Oil Paints. I will keep coming back to ZenART Supplies for my art supply needs. They offer exceptional quality for a great value.Oh, and I like the fact that a portion of my purchase goes to Art in All of Us (AiA), a UNICEF partner whose focus is to bring art to children around the world in an effort for them to share their experiences and come to understand each other.
This might not have a hardcover, but this journal is certainly not flimsy. Good quality paper, excellent cover, great price point, I need to but a couple more.
"Wonderful notebook. Great paper quality- not super smooth with great texture and thickness for writing with ink pens. Love it!"
This is super cool, nit too big or small and its pretty sturdy with outter leather-like cover.
This sketchbook had become my "go to" for bullet journaling. I recommend it all the time. I know that ZenArt has actual bullet journals, but if you want to used stronger markers and even watercolor, the Sketchbook has a higher GSM and can take more media without any bleedthrough or ghosting.
Bought this for a recent trip because I needed something smaller and more portable than my normal sketch pad. It's surprisingly heavy and has a very expensive feel to it. It stood up to a lot of abuse and after two weeks of lugging it through airports and across country, using it several times a day, it is still in pristine condition. The paper is nice and heavy and I find that I'm still using it about half the time now that I'm back home for smaller projects. I think I'm going to have to have one of these on hand at all times in addition to my larger pad ... I absolutely love it!
This is an awesome sketchbook. The size is a little bigger than a large moleskine but the quality of the paper is much better. The paper is not a bright white which I prefer. The paper is sewn and then glued to the spine. The cover is a sturdy board with a waxy feel that's very flexible. I had a small issue with my first order that customer service took care of extremely quick! Best service I've received from any company (besides Amazon who's also awesome). Highly recommend. Another journal I purchased from Zen is a bullet journal. Also, highly recommended. BTW, I did not receive anything in return for this review. Just think it's a great product!
Love the smoothness of the paper also the flexibility of the cover I can’t wait to start my project with this product. Will recommend and purchase again
I took an art class in college a long time ago and loved it.Now, I am 50 and want to start playing around with art again. I was looking for something smaller than my large sketchbook and after lots of research, I decided to get this one. It’s perfect! The softcover is quite flexible and durable, not to mention attractive. I find I don’t mind that it’s not a hardcover. This is comfortable to sketch in, and portable enough to take with me on travels, whether long or short. The best part is the quality of the paper! Just wow! I wanted something that is eraser friendly and the quality of each sheet surpasses my expectation! I may even do a bit of light watercolor on this, as other users have with success. Mainly it’s for my sketching and colored pencils.I’ve just completed one page of a sketch and I already know I will be buying more of these! Great value!
I got this to practice brush lettering and it’s great! The osier is smooth to write on and thick enough that my pens don’t bleed through.
Love this. Very nice paper. Put it in my chic sparrow and it is perfect.
Great sketchbook, came quickly, satisfied all the way around. Will buy this item again from ZenArt through Amazon. Thanks,
This is the perfect sketchbook/journal. It takes ink well and holds up to bashing. I have purchased these a couple of times. When they were not available on Amazon, I struggled. I use them as a journal and they serve me well. I am considering them as a true travel sketchbook, as well. This is a good product.
My wifes favorite sketchbook to use for journaling, she says it has amazing paper quality!
Excellent quality sketchbook.I bought this as a gift for my grand~daughter, who is an artist. She says this is her very best sketchbook ever!
Excellent quality, pages don't bleed through. My 10 year old loves this sketch book.
