A notebook that has really cheered up my afternoon! The cover is so soft, pages have a good weight and really nicely bound. The little red dragonflies on the page edge is such a pretty design and with a lovely colour scheme. This is the second item I've had from this company.
The design is gorgeous. The beautiful endpapers really lend a sense of elegance. The cover is soft and flexible and sturdy. The notebook lies flat when opened which is nice, and if you wanted you can also fold it in half for easier note taking. I appreciate the numbered pages and the index in the front. Overall I think the quality is quite nice and it seems to have been designed quite thoughtfully
The ZenArt journal is exactly what I was hoping for in creating zentangle art. I love the fact it has a Z on the cover. The feel of the faux leather is wonderful and enhances the quality IMO. The dragonfly details on the end pages and page edges are a nice touch, too. This feels like a substantial and quality journal.

Frequently Asked Questions
A dotted journal is suitable for bullet journaling – a method of personal organization developed by Ryder Carroll. The method organizes schedules, to-do lists, significant events, milestones and other organizational tasks in a single journal.
However, our dotted journal is designed in an open-minded way, to allow you to choose which system to use (or not). Having four index pages and numbers on each page, continuous lines of dots across the pages, you can express yourself creatively.
Good question! Our Modernista series dotted journals are pure joy for your aesthetical and organizing buds. They are all designed by our co-founder Ardak Kassenova, and are very unique. Each of them has a splash of color inside and outside, and even on the edges. The traditional Japanese design on the edges and end-papers, unique for each journal color-variation, has a positive meaning, and is a metaphor and our good wish to you.
Designed to make organizing on-the-go easier, each dotted journal is meticulously handcrafted using recyclable materials, with perfectly aligned dotted grids (5mm spacing) across both pages, and no lines to ruin your bullets but small dots to help you organize. Our dotted journal also features a 180° lay-flat spine that stays open so you can organize at ease.
This paper is amazing! Our latest journals have thicker paper of 120 gsm – as many of you requested. It has the same satin-smooth surface, it's acid-free, FSC certified, ink-proof and won't create feathering if you use a fountain pen, or similar. Each journal has 160 pages or 80 sheets of dotted ivory paper that won't reflect light in your eyes in the way ordinary white papers might.
Acid-free means that the pH level of the paper is 7.0 (neutral) or higher (alkaline). In general, acid-free papers are expected to last for decades under normal storage conditions. Don't worry; it's still biodegradable.
FSC is an acronym for the Forest Stewardship Council®, which is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. The FSC system provides an assurance that products such as wood and paper have been harvested in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
Our journals are encased in a vivid-colored faux leather-bound cover that is soft and smooth, scratch-resistant, flexible and vegan.
Our journals are perfect for daily journaling, art journaling and daily planning. The 120 gsm acid-free paper is durable enough for ink, markers, glue and sticky tapes, rough erasing, shading or art journaling. Your options are endless. You can consider journaling ideas as therapy.

This is the second time I buy one of the dotted journals as I love it so much. The quality is great, the colours are fun and cheery and I like the fact that the paper is off white, it's more relaxing than pure white. The journal also opens nicely and it can be folded over. I would definitely buy another one after this.
Thank you so much for writing us this review We truly appreciate it. :)- Ryan
very pretty but it is a soft cover
Fabulous looking orange notebook perfect for gifting or keeping. The edge blue & white colors are bold and crisp. Dotted pages are numbered. There is a section in front to write in the contents and page number. The size is large but not as bulky as 8 1/2 X 11 or 9 X 12.......6.9 X 9.8 inches is easier to carry for classes. Pocket on the back page. I have not written in it yet.....it does need a fountain pen test for my purposes. I was very happy with the quality - will buy more for gifts.
Excited to use this, the notebook looks amazing. It has an odd smell though. Hoping that will dissipate.
I am so pleased that Zen Art listened to their customers and created a dotted journal with thicker pages! The side by side comparison between the previous thinner paged version & this thicker paged version is obvious. The overall book is thicker and heavier and the individual pages are obviously thicker. I am still finishing my thinner paged journal but can't wait to switch to this thicker one when I am ready for the next journal!
I ordered this notebook since the description suggested it was “fountain pen friendly”.The notebook itself is lovely, the cover is soft & bright, it looks classy and well made. The paper is thick, slightly off white, faint dot grids, lined contents pages and has a document pocket with a little discount voucher against future purchases. The page edges are decorated in contrasting coloured patterns and it looks really eye catching.I’m also liking that the book comes in B5 size, something which is hard to come by in fountain pen friendly notebooks. The downside here is that the paper is not all that fountain pen friendly. It takes some inks well, but others not so much. The inks feather quite a bit (even usually well behaved ones), and they ghost/bleed through despite the heavy paper stick (advertised at 120gsm).The photos show the feathering and ghosting/bleed through from inks that are usually really well behaved. I’d expect some bleeding/feathering from Noodlers ink, but not from the Diamine, Colorverse & Vinta inks, which I’ve never really seen bleed/feather on anything other than cheap copy paper. If you’re after a really pretty, B5 notebook with quality paper, 2 marker ribbons, doc pocket etc then this is for you. If you’re a fountain pen user, with a number of inks from different manufacturers it might be better to avoid these.I’d also say that these are slightly over priced, they’re pretty, but they’re not a £20 notebook, I’d say a more realistic price is £10-£12 maximum.
This is the second one that I’ve purchased. It’s been my fav notebook! The covers are vibrant and really high quality. The paper pages are a nice weight too.
The ZenArt Supplies journal is a perfect size. I love that its big enough to use as an art journal, yet small enough to take with me on the go. I love the flexibility of the cover. It is durable, yet still flexible, allowing me to fit it in my purse. I really like the gender-neutral turquoise cover, as well as the red detail on the pages. There was a great amount of attention to detail that was put into this journal. The numbered pages and table of contents are a must-have and huge time saver. The bookmark and elastic closure allow me to save time by picking up exactly where I left off. The dot-grid paper is perfect for bullet journalism, planner needs, or random sketching and ideas. I used a few different mediums on my journal so far and the pages have held up perfectly. The folder on the back cover comes in handy for storing stickers and other additions that Ill be adding at a later date. Overall, I would recommend this journal to anyone.
A bullet journal can be an essential device when it comes to maintaining order in ones life, something the ZenART bullet journal especially appeals to. This journal invokes a sense of balance in both design and function. The book itself is durable yet flexible; convenient in size, yet spacious inside. The cover is rich with color and pattern, while the pages remain subtle. Even the little touches that may seem like add-ons prove to be quite useful (the pocket in the back is perfect for stashing scrap paper). As you unpack this gift further, youre given the story behind the journals creation along with tools and encouragement to continue creating. Each of these inviting design elements help prevent this beauty from falling into the collection of notebooks too intimidating to draw in. Both pencil and pen write smoothly on the surface. You can erase reasonably without worry of smudging or wearing and the ink wont bleed, however, it is visible on the reverse side of the page (something to keep in mind with Inktober right around the corner). Additionally, the placement of the page numbers breach the grid, which some may find awkward. That being said, this is not a sketchbook, but a bullet journal, and for its intended purpose, I am yet to find a better alternative to ZenART.
