Enjoy meditation and quiet time
Mindfulness can begin by taking a moment to relax your mind and calm down your thoughts. Practice some meditation by listening to that part of you that's always hidden away due to the responsibilities of daily life. Listen to your thoughts, truly recognize your surroundings and the life that you have. Be aware of your breathing patterns - deeply inhaling and exhaling, and revering in the present moment. If it helps, listen to some music online. There are also Youtube tutorials you can check and follow on how to meditate mindfully.
"As we celebrate this occasion, we realize that Christmas is one of the few times in a year when we are given the opportunity to slow down, sit back, and re-assess ourselves. It's a great season (and reason!) to be around our family, friends, and loved ones - and share the happiness that's overflowing all around us."
Practice a creative hobby
Drawing and painting truly do wonders to the soul. They're immersive experiences that will lead you into speaking a language that has not been always familiar to you. The beauty of this is that there are many forms of art that you can do -- there's painting, there's illustration, there's craft-making, etc., and all of them are innately therapeutic to the soul, as they ground you and bring out your true emotions. Grab a piece of paper, and draw whatever it is you feel like drawing. Learn a new skill. Mow the lawn, bake some cookies, create your personalized greetings cards (learn from us: watch our video tutorial for watercolours here or our video tutorial in oils here ) and gift tags (here you can find 11 creative ideas for painting your own Christmas tags). Feel free to express yourself. You may also catch up on that painting you've left behind, or finally start that still life illustration you've been wanting to do. Art is a wonderful gift and it is something that we should all try incorporating in our lives. You can also arrange an art session with your family, where everyone will gather around the table and create art together (here are 3 easy DIY Christmas decor ideas). This makes for a fun bonding activity, and evokes a spirit of unity and joy within the family!
Be aware
Like what the song Santa Claus Is Coming To Town says, "Be good for goodness' sake". The awareness that people around you may not be experiencing the same amount of joy this season as we do is one thing that we should be conscious of. This Christmas, it pays to remember those who cannot spend time with their families and loved ones, those who do not have much to spare for their holiday preparations or those who's been affected by the conflict, natural disaster or health problems. Take the time to acknowledge their presence, and if you can - reach out and make their lives a bit better this Holiday season!
Practise daily gratitude
When you truly look around the world and the people around, you will see that there is so much to be grateful for. Practice gratitude, and try to find the joy in the smallest things. Acknowledge the presence of the roof over your head, the meal that you share of with your loved ones, the time that you have on earth, and the work that you get to do. Be thankful for art, for opportunities, and the chance to do these things. When we have a positive outlook in life, everything around us seems better.
Bring a positive change in your life
The spirit of Christmas sparks a sense of community and family in ourselves, and once more we remember our place in the world. It is also the time to remember our actions - both past and present - and see how we could make ourselves better in the days to come. Expand your horizons, and try taking on a new hobby or habit as a part of your pursuit for happiness and mindfulness. Do anything that brings joy upon you, and see the positive changes it will bring in your life. This season, we hope that you get inspired, motivated, and spend your days mindfully. Always remember to give love, radiate positivity, and impart the gift of art to everyone around you. Have a happy mindful Christmas!
